GE Gets Smarter: Introduces LED Lights for Smart Homes

GE Lighting, a subsidiary of General Electric Company (GE), recently introduced an innovative and affordable connected LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulb that helps consumers to build their own Smart Homes by controlling lights from anywhere in the world through the new Wink application.

This latest product offering is created by General Electric in partnership with Quirky – a design company that makes varied home appliances that can be controlled via the Internet. Wink, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quirky, provides a quick and simple interface between the consumer and the products used at home or any other location. Wink uses Apple Inc (AAPL) and Android mobile devices to enable real-time interaction with various products. The company is partnering with offline as well as online retailers like The Home Depot, Inc (HD) and Amazon.com Inc (AMZN), maximising the coverage of Wink and making it user friendly and convenient to use. The LED bulb will be available below $15 to the consumers.

The new Wink Application is an easy and cost-effective way for consumers to light up their homes using their smart phones and other connected devices. The new LED lighting bulbs are innovative and redefine the art of illumination with styling, efficiency & performance as required by the user. It helps to create a personal experience for the user with individual themes and environments.

The user can best utilize the application to turn off lights through smart phones while away from home for a prolonged period. Additionally, these LED bulbs by General Electric aim to improve home ambiance, increase visibility, enhance overall experience and augment profitability by offering significant cost-saving technologies.
