QUALCOMM Unit Unveils aptX Adaptive to Boost User Experience

Zacks

Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd, a subsidiary of QUALCOMM Incorporated QCOM, recently introduced Qualcomm aptX Adaptive. Notably, the next-generation audio codec, aptX Adaptive is designed to automatically adjust to the type of content consumed by consumers. This, in turn, helps in improving the audio quality apart from reducing latency in audio-visual content including videos and games.

Combining superior audio quality, low-bit rate audio transmission and scalability, the innovative audio coding technology offers enhanced wireless listening experience for users in applications like mobile gaming, music and video. For headsets, headphones and speakers, the aptX Adaptive decoder is likely to be available from September 2018, on the Qualcomm CSRA68100 and the Qualcomm QCC5100 series Bluetooth Audio SoCs. For devices like smartphones and tablets, the aptX Adaptive encoder is expected to be available from December 2018. Notably, the encoder is designed to run on phones and tablets, which supports Android P.

Being one of the largest manufacturers of wireless chipset based on baseband technology, Qualcomm has been trying to retain its leadership in 5G, chipset market and mobile connectivity with multiple technological achievements and innovative product launches. The company’s improved and upgraded technologies will likely enable various firms to build new and updated products and services across the wireless ecosystem to better serve customers.

Notably, the company along with Verizon Communications Inc. VZ and Ericsson ERIC has completed the first Massive MIMO (Multiple Input-Multiple Output) trial with a fully-compatible customer device. Also, it achieved a 5G data connection with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem chipset on 28GHz mmWave spectrum. As a matter of fact, the company has been the forefront of driving Gigabit LTE and 5G in the industry.

In the past three months, shares of the Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) company have yielded 17.1% compared with the industry’s average growth of 10.1%.

Further, the company has signed multiple licensing deals with various Chinese smartphone makers including Xiaomi and Gionee Communication Equipment Co. Ltd. We believe these new patent license agreements will lessen the chip maker’s struggles in China and take it a step closer to solving issues pertaining to its most profitable licensing patent business.
