Buffalo, NY Collection Agency Comes Full Circle with Historic Acquisition of Long Island Firm

PR Newswire

BUFFALO, N.Y., June 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — ABC-Amega, a Buffalo, NY-based global commercial receivables management firm, has made an historic collection agency acquisition with the purchase of the assets of SKO Brenner American of Long Island. ABC-Amega completed the transaction on June 22, and immediately began managing the collection efforts for SKO Brenner American’s commercial clients, which include leading companies in financial services, media, transportation and other industries.

“This is not only a significant milestone for ABC-Amega, but it is also a homecoming,” stated David Herer, CEO for ABC-Amega. “American in SKO Brenner American’s name references its roots as part of the American Bureau of Collections, which is the name that ABC-Amega was founded as in 1929,” added Herer.

The American Bureau of Collections of New York, which held offices for many years on the corner of 42nd Street and 5th Avenue in Manhattan, operated as a division of the Buffalo-based American Bureau of Collections until 1960, when it was spun off upon the acquisition of the American Bureau of Collections by Harvey L. Herer. In 1980, the American Bureau of Collections of New York was acquired by Stuart Brenner, President and CEO of SKO Brenner American.

“The time was right for me to transition my business,” stated Brenner. “I have known ABC-Amega for decades, and I respect the way they operate as a successful, professional company. I trust that they will carry on the work of SKO Brenner American to the highest possible standards.”

In recent years, ABC-Amega has made significant investments in IT security and data privacy initiatives, including Tier III, SSAE 16 compliant colocation, data and disaster recovery, self-certification to the EU-US and Swiss-US Privacy Shield Frameworks, and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance efforts.

Stuart Brenner and Jon R. Lunn, a longtime executive vice president of SKO Brenner American, will work as consultants to ABC-Amega to assist with client and quality management, as well as business development.
