Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) said it has installed a XLS-band antenna at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, to help military commanders gather real time weather information for their operations.
This antenna is one among the series of six installations to be made worldwide as a part of the U.S. Air Force MARK IVB program. The remaining five installations under the program will be made in Kuwait and Hawaii by October 2011.
Lockheed said these antennas will allow the Air Force Weather Agency to collect data from the new series of X band-capable weather satellites. The installation included construction of a tower and radome and installation of the antenna and computing infrastructure.
The antenna installed in Guam is a three-meter tri-band antenna capable of collecting, processing and providing moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) data from the NASA aqua and terra earth observing system satellites. This new capability allows the Air Force Weather Agency, its users and joint services to receive and exploit enhanced data to support tactical and national missions.

During the first quarter earnings call Lockheed provided earnings estimates for 2011 in the range of $6.95 to $7.25 per share. The Zacks Consensus Estimates for second-quarter 2011, fiscal year 2011 and fiscal year 2012 are, respectively, $1.92 per share, $7.28 per share and $8.73 per share.
Lockheed currently retains a Zacks #3 Rank (short term Hold). The company primarily competes with Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC) and Raytheon Co. (RTN), both holding a Zacks # 3 Rank (short-term Hold).
