HPQ Expedites Guam Judicial Services (AAPL) (CSCO) (HPQ) (MSFT)

Services from Hewlett-Packard Company (HPQ) have been selected by the Judiciary of Guam to update its court case management system.

Financial details of the deal have not been divulged. Guam is an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States, located in the western Pacific Ocean.

Per the agreement, HPQ will act as a systems coordinator for the court case management solution developed for the judiciary. With support from HPQ, which boasts three decades of judicial experience, the Guam Judiciary will now be able to streamline reporting, administration and performance management. This would speed up the processing time for a case.

HPQ’s services will also let lawyers and plaintiffs communicate over the Web in no time. The new system will enable citizens to file court documents, pay fees and check the status of cases online. Moreover, the judiciary expects the enhanced system to meet the demand for judicial services from the growing population in Guam.

HPQ has been serving government verticals for a long time. The array of deals gives the leading PC vendor a wide exposure in this space. In May, the company clinched a five-year services deal with the Australian Taxation Office for $500.0 million.

In March, HPQ signed three consecutive government deals. The first was a four-year services deal with the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) for a value of $68.1 million. The second was a five-year deal with the health care division of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services for a sum of $176.0 million. Under the third deal, HP’s IT support services were selected by the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS). The deal, valued at $22.5 million, had a one-year base period with four one-year extension options.

Though most of the government deals bear lesser value, we believe these could still make major contributions to the total revenue if they come in big numbers.

Despite its wide exposure to computing, server, cloud and printing verticals, we prefer to remain cautious for the near term considering the lowered revenue outlook, which reflects moderate demand for desktop PCs, manufacturing problems in Japan and lower exposure in tablets. Intense competition from other technology companies, such as Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) as well as the smaller Asian players, is worth watching out for.

Currently, HPQ has a Zacks #4 Rank, which translates into a short-term Sell recommendation.
