Wireless equipment company Ericsson ERIC has inked a five-year network enhancement contract with Telenor Group. The contract covers the design and implementation of 4G/LTE networks, along with the transformation of 2G and 3G networks in Thailand, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Under the contract, Ericsson will install the RBS 6000 — its multi-standard radio base station which supports 3G and 4G/LTE in a single cabinet. In order to meet the requirement of consistent mobility, security and performance in demanding indoor environments, Ericsson will deploy indoor small cell solutions, including the Radio Dot System and RBS 6402.

The small cell base station RBS 6402 can deliver speeds of up to 300 Mbps, with deployments in less than Array0 minutes. Also, the Radio Dot System ensures improvement in mobile data throughput by up to 5 times, with dropped calls reduced to zero and extremely low installation times.

Also, the micro radio base station RBS 650Array will provide additional capacity and flawless mobility in certain outdoor spaces.

The project will develop network capacity and improve mobile broadband experiences for dtac (4G/LTE), Telenor Myanmar (2G/3G) and Grameenphone (2G/3G) subscribers. The contract will deliver enhanced smartphone and network performance, including quicker web browsing and downloads to consumers.

This contract builds on Ericsson’s long-standing relationship with Telenor Group and displays the former’s leadership in technology and services.

Ericsson possesses meaningful presence in all high-traffic LTE markets, including the US, Japan and South Korea. Ericsson has been persistently seeking out opportunities to expand its footprint in the global telecom industry as operators shift toward 4G deployments, and has signed multiple deals in the recent past. Some important agreements include a collaboration with its long-term partner Singapore Telecommunications Limited (also known as Singtel) for nationwide deployment of 4G LTE network on 900MHz spectrum band.

Also, the company was chosen by India-based mobile services operator Idea Cellular for deploying 4G/LTE network and revamping existing 2G and 3G networks.

These recent deals will strengthen the company’s foothold in the market and boost its core business, thus driving growth.

Ericsson presently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other stocks from the wireless equipment space that investors could take a look at include Sonus Networks, Inc. SONS, ViaSat Inc. VSAT and Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. UBNT, each sporting a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
