This New Year’s Eve, Netflix, Inc. NFLX will be helping parents in tricking their kids with an early ‘planned midnight’. For this, the video-streaming giant has launched a range of countdowns that would be available for parents to play at any time before the actual midnight. The trailer to the countdowns’ says “we won't tell them it's not midnight if you don't”.
The company devised this hack after a research revealed that a number of parents especially the ones with smaller children are in a dilemma whether to celebrate the New Year’s Eve with family or party with friends and other grownups. In fact, a lot of parents invent ways to make their kids believe that it’s already midnight, well before the designated hour, so that they fall asleep early.
This time around, Netflix will be aiding parents with a set of 10-second countdowns that can be played as per their convenience. Moreover, Netflix has also gone a step ahead by making these countdowns feature popular cartoon characters. This would probably make it even more special for kids who can choose a countdown featuring Puffin Rock, Care Bears & Cousins, Inspector Gadget, Project Mc2 girls, King Julien and Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
Netflix had collaborated with SurveyMonkey for conducting the New Year's Eve survey earlier this month, which included parents (with at least one child below 12 years of age) from regions like the US, UK, France, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Italy, Spain, and Mexico. Though the results varied from one region to another, it did indicate that a significant percentage of parents (49% in the US, UK, Canada and Australia) celebrate midnight with their kids by 9 pm.
