Microsoft Corporation MSFT recently announced the availability of Lumia 550 in Europe. The phone, priced at $139, will be launched in other markets globally in the coming weeks.

The 550 is Microsoft's third Windows 10 powered Lumia phone, following the debut of the high-priced Lumia 950 and 950 XL. These devices were announced during the Windows 10 event held on Oct 6 in New York.

Lumia 550, which supports 4G LTE cellular networks, features a 4.7-inch 1,280×720-pixel display, 1.1-gigahertz quad-core Qualcomm processor along with 1GB memory and 8GB internal storage. However, by adding a microSD card, the storage capacity can be increased to 200GB.

The 550 version supports a 5-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera. Available in matte black and glossy white colors, the phone comes with Glance Screen, which displays date, time, notifications and calendar appointments in standby mode.

Microsoft is trying to make its mark with economical devices and lure value-conscious consumers. These efforts to launch affordable handsets will help the company push into the smartphone market, thereby increasing its share. Also, as the phone supporting the new operating system which offers distinctive features, the company might be able to convince consumers to give its new mobile phones a try, and expand the user base.

We expect the company’s initiatives to draw customers and gain traction in the global smartphone market. However, the Windows Phone still has a long way to go in comparison with Apple’s AAPL iOS and Alphabet’s GOOGL Android mobile platforms.

Microsoft currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). A better-ranked stock from the same sector is Autodesk, Inc. ADSK sporting a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
