JetBlue to Offer Weekly Mint Service Flights to Barbados

Zacks

Following the successful launch of its seasonal Mint service on the New York to Barbados route, low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways Corp. JBLU has decided to offer the premium service on a weekly basis.

JetBlue intends to operate round-trip Mint-based flights between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados (BGI) on every Saturday throughout the year.

We note that Caribbean cities are fast developing as important tourist spots, attracting vacationers to its vast stretch of sandy beaches. Thus, increasing the number of flights with such premium services will certainly enhance customer satisfaction.

Apart from the weekly extension, JetBlue will run Mint-based flights on a daily basis during the peak holiday season between Dec 19, 2015 to Jan 4, 2016. Meanwhile, the tickets will be available through Sep 6, 2016.

In order to retain customers as well as to boost profits, JetBlue had introduced Mint service in the month of June last year. Since the launch, the service has gained considerable popularity as it offers passengers premium services like private suites, more leg space, delectable on-board meals and cozy seats at affordable rates. Moreover, the Mint service offers on-board entertainment options which include more that 100 TV and satellite radio channels from DIRECTV and Sirius XM Holdings Inc. Apart from these, flyers will be offered unlimited broadband access on the carrier’s Fly-Fi service. Notably, JetBlue has decided to fly Airbus A321 on both the routes.

We believe that the increase in flight frequency across Latin America and the Caribbean regions coupled with cheaper fares will not improve options for both the U.S. and the Latin American travelers apart from boosting passenger revenues for JetBlue.

JetBlue currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Better-ranked stocks in this sector include SkyWest Inc. SKYW, Hawaiian Holdings, Inc. HA and Southwest Airlines Co. LUV. Both SkyWest and Hawaiian Holdings sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) while Southwest Airlines carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
