Shaw Communications Inc.SJR, a leading cable TV and media company in Canada, recently introduced its SmartWiFi and SmartSecurity Service to bring the benefits of managed WiFi and network security to small and medium scaled businesses (SMB). The service will provide seamless integration of a company’s wired and wireless networks and help employees stay connected to ensure optimum utilization of a firm’s network. The system is built on Cisco System Inc.’s CSCO cutting-edge Meraki platform which balances powerful features with straightforward management tools.
Advantage Shaw Communications?
Small businesses generally operate on a tight budget. This often requires compromising on IT infrastructure and network security, which renders them uneconomical and uncompetitive. Shaw Communications aims to tackle this concern by introducing its affordable, scalable and secure solutions that are easy to deploy and manage and facilitate the day-to-day business operations of SMBs. SmartWiFi provides small businesses uninterrupted access to shared printers and servers, and helps business owners monitor operations and support internal control system through built-in analytics.
The business services segment is a growing market for telecom operators. Shaw Communications too, though inorganic strategies, has been gaining ground in this segment. Recently, the company acquired ViaWest, then one of the largest privately-held providers of hybrid IT solutions in North America. Through this acquisition, Shaw Communications has gained significant capabilities, scale and immediate expertise in the growing market for enterprise data services.
The Bottom Line
Apart from crafting attractive services to lure business customers, Shaw Communications is also partnering with Comcast to develop a cloud-based X1 platform to grow its portfolio of enterprise services. With these strategies in place, it is clear that the company has its eye on sturdy growth. However, the company faces intense competition from BCE Inc. BCE and Telus Corp. TU in Canada. It remains to be seen whether these services can improve the company’s current position in the market.
Shaw Communications (SJR) currently carries a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell).
