Restaurant Brands International Inc.’s QSR Burger King is reportedly selling burgers made with black buns, known as Halloween Whopper, at the U.S. stores from Sep 28. The Halloween Whopper burger, with a price tag of $4.99 will be available for a limited time.

The new burger consists of a beef patty, American cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, pickles and onions, inside a black bun baked with the A.1. Steak Sauce.

Burger King is introducing the black burger in the U.S., after it became immensely popular in Japan since its launch last September. The restaurateur also offered two all-black burgers — Kuro Diamond and Kuro Pearl — in Japan made from black buns, black cheese and black sauce. The company also introduced a bright red burger dyed with tomato powder, as well as a black burger with deep-fried eggplant, in summer which became a hit among Japanese consumers.

In December last year, Tim Hortons Inc. and Burger King Worldwide, Inc. collaborated to form Restaurant Brands International, worth roughly $11.0 billion. Burger King faced difficulty in boosting sales right after the merger. However, by bringing back some of the popular menu items like the pulled pork sandwich and the Chicken Fries, the company was able to post comparable sales growth. The new black-bun burger should boost sales for Burger King, especially with the upcoming Halloween.
