In a landmark event for the Canadian Armed Forces and Sikorsky, United Technologies Corporation’s UTX unit, Sikorsky Aircraft, completed the delivery of six CH-148 Cyclone helicopters to the Canadian government.
The acceptance gala was attended by Canada's Defense Minister Jason Kenney, Justice Minister Peter MacKay, Public Works and Government Services Minister Diane Finley and Regional Ministers. Sikorsky was represented at the event by William Gostic, Vice President of the CH-148 Maritime Helicopter Program.
The helicopters are the first of an order of 28 Cyclone aircraft that Sikorsky is scheduled to deliver to the Canadian Armed Forces. The copters will handle the complete range of anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare missions, and will also be able to execute search and rescue, and utility missions in diverse environments. The esteemed Sea King fleet, also delivered by Sikorksy, will be replaced as all deliveries and capability upgrades are completed, beginning in 2018.
In fact, as the Royal Canadian Air Force determines the relevant operational strategy and trains more personnel to fly and maintain the aircraft, Sikorsky will phase in more capabilities for the aircraft.
Toward that objective, over 40 military personnel have completed their initial training already.
Sikorsky continues to focus on developing and enhancing the capabilities of the Cyclone, in order to ensure that it meets Canada's vital operational capabilities. In addition, Sikorsky and its Canadian partners will also deliver top-notch, in-service support services for the aircraft.
