Leading German semiconductor company, Infineon Technologies AG IFNNY, has collaborated with global technology giant Google Inc.’s GOOG Advanced Technology and Projects group (“ATAP”). This tie-up is aimed at creating a sensing solution that can be utilized in a wide range of applications like wearables, Internet of things and automotives.
Google ATAP has already demonstrated gesture recognition and presence detection capability for a range of future devices in its Google I/O Developers Conference in San Francisco. Powered by the 60GHz transceiver technology, the latest sensor combines advanced features like RF transceiver, antenna and control electronics in a single package, thereby enhancing the performance of Google ATAP and its developer community.
Google ATAP is deploying Infineon’s expertise to develop a compact and low-power implementation sensor that can be seamlessly deployed in mobile as well as fixed devices. The latest collaboration comes on the back of Infineon’s solid reputation in providing radar-based sensor integrated circuits. Infineon will also provide innovative solutions for wireless communications to other divisions at Google for deployment in futuristic devices.
Infineon has already carved a strong position in the market in terms of providing component and system-level solutions, applications for automotive safety, industrial & commercial sensing and machine vision applications.
Management remains bullish on the fact the radar-based sensor markets have tremendous growth prospects going forward and the company is well positioned to meet the changing demands of consumers. We believe the company’s strong focus on developing technological capabilities to increase market share and augment margin will act as strong growth drivers in the long run.
