U.S. telecom behemoth AT&T, Inc. T plans to add a new member to its tablet family with the upcoming launch of LG G Pad F 8.0. The device will be available with the carrier effective May 29.
The new tablet, which boasts an 8-inch HD+ IPS screen and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, will be offered by AT&T, both online and in stores. We believe this latest addition to its existing pool of smart devices will pep up AT&T’s popularity, thereby expanding its customer base.
Customers eager to get hold of the G Pad F 8.0 can do so at zero upfront payment by taking up 20 monthly installments of $12.50 each using AT&T’s tablet installment plan. Alternately, the phone will be available at a price of $149.99 with a fresh two-year contract with the carrier. Customers can also add the device to an existing or new Mobile Share Value plan for only $10 per month.
Apart from attracting customers with an array of hi-end devices, AT&T is looking at opportunities to improve its growth profile and retain competitiveness against rivals like Verizon Communications VZ, T-Mobile US TMUS and Sprint Corp. S, through a number of strategic initiatives.
With its AT&T Next plan, the carrier allows its customers the option for early upgrades on smartphones and tablets every 12 or 18 months without any down payment, activation charge, upgrade cost or financing fee. The company has also introduced new Mobile Share Value plans to enhance sales as well as provide greater value to customers, making way for more savings and a hassle-free no annual service contract.
Incidentally, earlier this month, AT&T launched its first self-branded tablet which runs on Android Lollipop 5.0 – Trek HD. The device is available for $49.99 with a two-year agreement or at $10 per month for 20 months under AT&T’s tablet installment plan.
We believe AT&T is committed to add value to customers who prefer to remain Android loyalists amid competition from Apple iOS and Microsoft Windows. However, with two back-to-back tablet launches in a month – one under its own label, and another from LG – AT&T is slated to witness competition within its own offerings, going ahead.
AT&T currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
