Worldwide provider of navigation, communications and information devices Garmin Ltd’s. GRMN unit, Garmin International Inc., has added two new next generation action camera models, VIRB X and VIRB XE, to its VIRB line of action sports cameras. Both VIRB X and VIRB XE cameras will be on sale this summer for $300 and $400, respectively.
The cameras are small, have a new streamlined form factor, are waterproof to 50 meters, do not need an external case for underwater shooting and are suited to endure tough environmental conditions. With enhanced video and audio quality, the cameras can shoot high-definition, wide-angle footage. They are equipped with several built-in sensors and wireless functionality options, which can be used via the new G-Metrix feature for collection of data and a better viewing experience.
Users can connect VIRB X and XE to the VIRB Mobile app on smartphones and tablets through the built-in Wi-Fi option. The app can give users access to a live stream of video to set up shots and watch what is being recorded; manage and view several cameras, or even swiftly edit and overlay G-Metrix data. The app also tracks the last known GPS location of the camera for simple recovery.
With all these features combined, VIRB X and XE are capable of offering best user and viewer experience irrespective of the activity, thereby increasing the adoption rate of Garmin’s VIRB products.

The company has been making efforts to increase its share in the action camera market on the back of its VIRB products. The latest launch will help it to strengthen its position and effectively compete against GoPro GPRO, which dominates the market with its popular action sports oriented cameras and accessories.
