Neogen Corp. NEOG has launched a new rapid test that can detect the presence of six tree nut allergens at the same time. This new Reveal for Multi-Treenut food allergen test is reported to detect 5-10 parts per million (ppm) of tree nuts like almond, hazelnut, pecan, walnut, cashew and pistachio residues on environmental surfaces, as well as in rinses.
The test is aimed at providing quick and accurate results in order to aid food manufacturers in preventing cross-contamination of tree nuts within their facilities.
Reveal for Multi-Treenut uses an easy lateral flow format in which the test’s device is dipped in an extracted sample and results are achieved within 10 minutes. If two lines develop, then it indicates the presence of one or more of the six tree nuts. However, if only one line develops, the test is negative.
Apart from this new addition, the company’s food allergen test portfolio include rapid quantitative and screening tests for milk, gluten, egg, soy, sesame, crustacea, mustard, peanut, almond, walnut and hazelnut.
Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recalled hundreds of different products containing cumin after they were found to be contaminated with peanuts and almonds.
Neogen, in response to the recent recalls, stated that its wide range of food allergen tests, which include quantitative and screening test kits, can detect peanut and almond allergens in cumin and spice blends.
Neogen’s AOAC-approved Veratox for Peanut Allergen, Alert for Peanut Allergen and the Reveal for Peanut Allergen are some of the test kits that manufacturers can opt for in order to detect the presence of peanut residues.
We feel that expanding its portfolio of food allergen tests will help Neogen to achieve significant market share, which in turn, will lead to top-line growth. We also believe that the newly added test will give Neogen a competitive edge in the food allergen market which has players like OMIC USA and Romer Labs.
