In order to boost its cloud capabilities, Ericsson ERIC collaborated with leading power and automation technology company – ABB Ltd. ABB. With this move, Ericsson aims at transforming the management, architecture and optimization of overall data center resources.

The contract entails the unification of Ericsson Cloud System and ABB's Decathlon data center infrastructure management system (‘DCIM’). The newly formed fully integrated solution will aid data center operators to enable an end-to-end view and efficiently manage total facility and equipment operations. Most importantly, the combined solution will ensure energy and maintenance savings along with enhanced reliability and performance to the customers.

With the emergence of demand for advanced data center control and automation systems, we view the deal as a strategic fit for Ericsson. Moreover, ABB’s Decathlon is one of the best DCIM solutions that can enable dynamic automation as well as offer uniform, real-time visibility and control of data centers physical resources. Hence, this justifies Ericsson’s idea of choosing ABB.

As a matter of fact, apart from the above-mentioned deal, Ericsson has been strategizing for enhancing its foothold in its other areas of operations. Most recently, Ericsson was chosen by Orange ORAN as its managed services partner. As per this, Ericsson will offer fully managed end-to-end operations to Orange across five European countries – Romania, Spain, Belgium, Moldova and Slovakia – and covering over 30 million customers.

Apart from this Ericsson in alliance with China Mobile Limited CHL disclosed the successful completion of second phase of the LTE-Advanced TDD Trial in the 3.5 GHz band in China. The companies had previously performed the first phase of this trial in Beijing. This achievement confirms TDD access scheme as a competent solution for 3.5 GHz band to enhance mobile operators’ efficiency of offering advanced services and applications.

With the emergence of the smartphone market and subsequent usage of mobile broadband, the user demand for coverage speed and quality has increased in recent times. Further, to maintain superior performance as traffic increases, there is also a continuous need for network tuning and optimization. Ericsson, being one of the premier telecom services providers, is very much in demand among operators to expand network coverage and upgrade networks for higher speed and capacity. This promises substantial growth prospects for the company in the future.
