Ericsson-Unitel Fosters Innovation in African LTE Network

The joint venture partnership of Ericsson (ERIC) and Unitel have successfully demonstrated super fast end-to-end LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) Carrier Aggregation (“CA”) solution, with an impressive data speed of up to 450Mbps in Angola. This was achieved by using three 20 MHz Long Term Evolution (LTE) carriers in bands of 1800 MHz, 2600 MHz and 2100 MHz utilizing total 60MHz spectrum. The demonstration marked a unique achievement for an African commercial LTE network.

Unitel, Africa’s leading telecommunication company, achieved this landmark on Dec 5, 2014, outshining its peers in terms of efficiency and high speed. This never-before development on a global level, coming on the back of cutting-edge technological innovation, is expected to enhance customer satisfaction manifold. Also, the LTE-A 450 Mbps data speed will allow super fast downloading of applications for Unitel customers.

Ericsson and Unitel’s symbiotic partnership over the past years had significantly supplemented the development of LTE network in Africa. The latest enterprise between the two giants, too, denotes a commitment toward fostering high-level technological innovation in the continent.

Ericsson’s presence in major high-traffic LTE markets of Japan, the U.S., Canada, Australia and South Korea is an indicator of its immense global popularity. Currently, top 10 LTE operators have chosen Ericsson as a reliable partner, delivering 200 LTE RAN and Evolved Packet Core networks internationally to date.
