United Parcel Opens 3 Logistic Support Facilities in Europe

Zacks

Recently, United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) — a leading package delivery company – inaugurated three new logistic facility centers in Europe. Notably, the facilities are located in Krefeld, Germany; Butzbach (near Frankfurt am Main), Germany; and Venlo, Netherlands.
This latest development adds nearly 220,000 square feet to United Parcel’s area of operations as the Krefeld, Butzbach and Venlo facilities span across 53,000 square feet, 75,000 square feet and 91,000 square feet, respectively.
United Parcel’s supply chain facilities deliver a wide range of services which include warehousing and order fulfillment; inventory, transportation and returns management; custom kitting and packaging; store-ready displays; critical parts repair; and same-day delivery.
Aggressive marketing efforts by retailers during the festive season coupled with a massive growth in e-commerce business triggered considerable rise in shipments. Hence, to meet the increasing demand for logistic support, United Parcel is continuously expanding its operation network globally.
Previously, the company had enhanced its North American operations with the addition of four networks, reaching 596 supply chain facilities. At present, the company boasts 33 million square feet area of global operations.
In sync with the expansion strategy, in Aug 2014, United Parcel fortified its presence in Canada by initiating three supply chain networks in British Columbia.
United Parcel is thoroughly engaged in the expansion of its logistic network across the globe. Such efforts will not only enhance its service quality but will also lend it an edge over other logistic companies like FedEx Corporation (FDX) and Expeditors International of Washington Inc. (EXPD).
Currently, United Parcel carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). A better-ranked stock in the same space is DryShips, Inc. (DRYS) with a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
