Philips Gets FDA Nod for its New Fetal Monitoring Solution

Koninklijke Philips N.V (PHG) disclosed that it received 510(k) clearance from the U.S.A. Food and Drug Administration (‘FDA’) for marketing its Avalon CL Fetal Monitoring solution across the nation. The move complements Philips’ strategy of providing innovative solutions and contributing towards advancement of the heath care system.

Avalon CL Fetal Monitoring solution is part of Philips’ Fetal and Maternal Monitors portfolio, which is designed for providing advanced monitoring and connected care solutions in the health continuum. In particular, Avalon CL is an advanced cableless technology premeditated for providing more freedom of movement to pregnant women during labor, which is scientifically proven to be favorable for both mother and child.

This device basically discerns the maternal pulse and fetal heart rate and transmits the vital signs information to the monitor. Thereafter, this data can easily be transferred to the Philips IntelliSpace Perinatal information management system for further scrutiny by the physicians.

The introduction of Philips’ latest Fetal Monitoring solution device is a significant step in the technological advancement of medical devices. This device, apart from enhancing clinical confidence, paves the way for reviving operational performance of Philips.

Of late, Philips has been working towards enhancing its position in the medical instruments industry. Last month, the company stated the definitive merger deal with Volcano Corporation (VOLC), which has a leading position in both IVUS imaging and FFR measurements.
