Why Shares of FLIR Fell Despite 3 New Product Launches?

Zacks

FLIR Systems, Inc. (FLIR) recently introduced three new products at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015. This was in line with the company’s strategy of providing advanced products and services to customers to enhance their personal awareness.

However, shares of the company dipped 2.7%, during the regular trading session on Jan 6 due to a fall in the broader market investors’ sentiments.

Product Details

In particular, FLIR Systems launched a C2 Compact Professional Thermal Camera; a second generation FLIR ONE thermal camera for Android and iOS devices; and Raymarine Dragonfly 4DV and 5 Pro Fishfinder Systems.

C2 Compact Professional Thermal Camera is the world’s first fully-integrated pocket-sized thermal camera. The product is Lepton-powered and has specifications like FLIR Systems' exclusive MSX real-time image enhancement software and fully radiometric imagery for accurate temperature readings. The C2 Compact camera will be available in the first quarter of 2015, on a global platform.

FLIR ONE thermal camera has FLIR Systems' core features along with enhanced resolution and is designed for various Android or iOS platform devices such as the iPhone 6 and iPads. The product displays live infrared imagery and also has distinctive specifications to enable shooting in dark.

Raymarine Dragonfly 4DV and 5 Pro Fishfinder Systems is a marine electronic device meant for offering innovative solutions to fisherman. The product having wide spectrum CHIRP DownVision (TM) sonar imaging technology, is designed to provide high fidelity, photo-like sonar images of underwater objects and creatures. The Raymarine Dragonfly 4DV will be available from February this year.

Conclusion

Although the investors’ initial sentiments on the news was discouraging, we believe FLIR Systems’ core strength of providing reliable and effective imaging and threat-detection technologies promises strong growth prospects.

Notably, in the last reported quarter, FLIR Systems generated an average earnings surprise of 11.4%. Such lucrative products offering are likely to augment the brand value and financial results of the company in the quarters ahead too.

FLIR Systems currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some better-ranked stocks in the industry include Analogic Corporation (ALOG), Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Adobe Systems Inc. (ADBE).
