Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a unit of General Dynamics Corporation (GD), added two new business jets – the Gulfstream G500 and G600 – to its portfolio.
These business jets are efficacious in terms of speed optimization and fuel efficiency. The G500 can fly 5,000 nautical miles (nm)/9,260 kilometers at Mach 0.85 or 3,800 nm/7,038 km at Mach 0.90. The Gulfstream G600 can travel 6,200 nm/11,482 km at Mach 0.85 or 4,800 nm/8,890 km at Mach 0.90. Maximum operating speed for both the aircraft is Mach 0.925.
The business jets sport several features like a wide cross-sectioned cabin, storage capacity of 175 cubic feet/5.0 cu meters and cutting-edge technology like active control sidesticks (ACSs) and next-generation enhanced vision system (EVS). Both the aircraft can accommodate up to 19 passengers each.
The jets have been designed keeping in mind the comfort of passengers. The 91 inches/213 centimeters wide and 74 in/188 cm tall aircraft have ample head room and shoulder room. G500 has three living areas while G600 has four and both offer optional crew rest. The business jets are characterized by cabin altitude of 4,850 ft/1,578 m at FL510 and large oval windows similar to aircraft G650.
The jets will be manufactured at the company’s newly built facility at Savannah. Both the jets will employ Pratt & Whitney Canada PW800 series engine facilitating fuel efficiency above industry standards.
The G500 jet expects its first flight test in 2015 and deliveries in 2018. However, first flight for G600 is expected 12-18 months after G500 and deliveries are expected in 2019.
Gulfstream Aerospace, wholly owned by General Dynamics, is engaged in developing and manufacturing technologically advanced business aircraft. To date it has produced more than 2,200 jets.
