With the holiday season around the corner, retailers are going all out and capitalizing on every opportunity as and when it arises. Many companies are in the process of employing seasonal workers to tap holiday sales. Following suit, The Gap, Inc. (GPS) recently declared its plans to employ over 63,000 workers for this holiday season.

The company plans to hire associates from all over the country for its brands including Banana Republic, Old Navy, Gap and Athleta, its call centers and distribution centers. They will be appointed for different positions ranging from catering to customers in stores, to handling their calls at call centers. Further, some positions will also include the task of managing shipments from distribution centers to stores and to customers.

Also, this is the first time Gap will hold an organized in-store hiring event starting Oct 13 through Oct 18. While the Athleta and Old Navy outlets will run the event on Oct 18 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the hiring process will be on at Banana Republic and Gap stores through Oct 13–Oct 18 at different times.

Apart from the motive of driving sales, the company has undertaken this step to enrich consumers’ shopping experience. By employing talented personnel at its outlets and call centers, Gap aims to cater well to all its customers on the web and in stores, even amid the busy shopping environment. This highlights the company’s focus on its customers.

Apart from this Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company, other retail bellwethers including Target Corp. (TGT), Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) and GameStop Corp. (GME) also announced their hiring plans for the upcoming holiday season in anticipation of heavy store traffic. While GameStop plans to add 25,000 heads to its workforce, Wal-Mart and Target plan to hire 60,000 and 70,000 seasonal staff respectively.

Retailers are gearing up to make the most of this holiday season. They need to be hawk-eyed and grab every opportunity to drive in consumers. Be it early-hour store openings, promotional events, free shipping on online purchases or heavy discounts, retailers will try every trick to boost sales in the upcoming holiday season.
