Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP) recently announced the launch of a PC peripheral named 3DTouchPad, a development platform for 2D multi-touch and 3D gestures.
The new 3DTouchPad is compatible with Windows 7/8.X and OS X and does not require any drivers. It features 3D air gestures, advanced multi-touch performance including surface gestures and a free downloadable package for developers.
The 2D multi-touch coupled with 3D air gesture provides for new and innovative designs in input sensing applications. Microchip also launched its new capacitive touch-screen line driver to support 2D multi-touch. Microchip's GestIC technology makes the 3DTouchPad capable of detecting 3D gestures up to a range of 10 cm, along with highly responsive projected-capacitive 2D multi-touch solutions.
Apart from PCs and computers, the technology can also be applied to a variety of products in sectors such as sanitary, home automation, remote controls, game controllers, wearable devices and automotive applications.
The 3DTouchPad is a valuable addition to Microchip's Human Interface Input Sensing Solutions portfolio. It is a completely new product and the world’s first product combining 2D multi-touch and 3D air gesture recognition. With such innovative and proprietary products, Microchip continues to capitalize on its business potential.
Microchip develops and manufacturers microcontrollers, memory and analog and interface products for embedded control systems, which are small, low-power computers designed to perform specific tasks.
