GameStop to Add 25,000 Seasonal Workers for Holiday Rush

GameStop Corp. (GME) recently declared that it plans to employ nearly 25,000 seasonal workers from all over the country as it gears up for the upcoming holiday season. The search is expected to commence in the next few days and continue till mid-October.

The total seasonal workforce this year is likely to be nearly 47% higher than last year, underscoring the company’s solid business. Further, it aims to enrich customer experience and provide them with their favorite games and software at reasonable prices.

This holiday season, GameStop is all set to introduce new video games for Microsoft’s Xbox One, the Nintendo Wii U and Sony Corporation’s (SNE) PlayStation 4. Also, 2,800 company locations in the U.S. will feature Cricket Wireless’ services during the season. GameStop’s consumer electronics re-commerce operations are likely to flourish on high demand, with the launch of Apple Inc.‘s (AAPL) iPhone 6.

GameStop is committed to provide consumers with exclusive services. In order to cater to their rising needs, the company is looking to hire roughly 250 customer electronic technicians and some in-store Game Advisors within its refurbishment operation center. It also intends to appoint warehouse staff for its two distribution centers.

The interested candidates can apply via the company’s website or even approach GameStop via social media sites like Facebook, Inc. (FB) and Twitter. Their employment will be effective Oct 6 and continue up to Jan 9, 2015. Workers will be entitled to flexible working hours, part time jobs and so on. Additionally, these employees will get the benefit of buying certain GameStop merchandise at 15% discount.

This highlights that the company is focused on its customers as well as on providing incentives to employees.

Apart from this Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company, other retail bellwethers including Target, Wal-mart and Kohl's Corp. also announced their hiring plans for the upcoming holiday season in anticipation of heavy store traffic. While Target and Kohl's plan to add 70,000 and 67,000 heads to their workforce, respectively, Wal-Mart plans to hire 60,000 seasonal staff.

Retailers are gearing up to make the most of this holiday season. They need to grab every opportunity, and try all means to drive in consumers. Be it early-hour store openings, promotional events, free shipping on online purchases or heavy discounts, retailers will try every trick to boost sales in the holiday season.
