Arris Wins E6000 CER Contract from VTR GlobalCom in Chile

Zacks

Arris Group Inc. (ARRS), a leading cable and broadband infrastructure gear manufacturer, recently received a major contract from Chile’s largest cable MSO (multi-service operator) VTR GlobalCom S.A. to enhance its high-speed broadband network. VTR, which offers triple-play video, high-speed data (Internet) and residential telephony services in Chile, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Global plc. (LBTYA).

Arris’ industry leading E6000 Converged Edge Router (CER) combines edge QAM legacy video architecture and CMTS (cable modem termination system) DOCSIS 3.0 IP network to provide a readymade integrated-IP platform to cable TV operators. E6000 router acts as a powerful C4 CMTS of the company while it can also be converted into a Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP). CCAP helps carriers to maximize bandwidth, simplify the operational structure and evolve according to subscribers’ demand.

Utilizing the E6000 router, VTR will be able to provide fastest broadband speeds to its customers, high scalability and a significant reduction in operating expenditure. This week, Arris will give a demo of the industry’s first DOCSIS 3.1 transmission on its E6000 CCAP chassis. Theoretically, the next-generation DOCSIS 3.1 can support 10 Gbps data download and 1 Gbps data upload speed for the cable TV industry. Intel Corp. (INTC) provided the chipset for this test run.

Since Jun 2013, Comcast Corp. (CMCSA), the largest cable MSO in the US, is extensively using Arris’ E6000 system. In Jun 2014, Arris had cut a similar deal with Austrian cable operator Liwest Kabelmedien GmbH to deploy its E6000 CER. Currently, the network is offering Internet speed up to 250 Mbps. Liwest plans to upgrade Internet speed up to 1 Gbps in the long term.
