After the data breach debacle that tainted its image, Target Corp. (TGT) is trying to win back customers in the upcoming holiday season with its expanded toy collection, including the boutique brand toys.
Target has partnered with specialty toy makers such as Wonderology, Mindware, Hape and others to bring boutique toys to its stores as well as on its online portal. These toys focus on creative play patterns that promote development in children.
Target also provided its annual list of top toys that includes the ones which are likely to emerge as the hottest selling items in the holiday season along with children-centric electronic play items. Some of the items include ‘Frozen My Size Dolls’ inspired by The Walt Disney Company’s (DIS) block buster hit Frozen, which has emerged as an all time top grossing animated movie.
Apart from this, other toys include LEGO City Helicopter Transporter, Barbie Fashion Design Maker, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Secret Sewer Lair Playset, Wubble Bubble Ball, Kinetic Sand Island Fun Playset, LeapFrog LeapTV and Hot Wheels Super Loop Chase Race Trackset.
Last holiday season Target suffered a setback due to massive data breach and since then it is leaving no stone unturned to mend its tattered reputation. Almost a year later, footfall still remains weak driving this Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell) stock to take up all possible measures to reverse the situation.
Merchandising initiatives along with enhancement of omni-channel capabilities are being pursued aggressively. In addition, the company has been unveiling smaller version of its stores TargetExpress and City Target to ramp up expansion in new areas.
We believe that these efforts are in the right direction but are likely to prove time consuming.
