Good news for Internet users in Sault Ste. Marie! Shaw Communications Inc. (SJR) is providing Sault Ste. Marie residents free access to its popular Shaw Go WiFi networks at nearly 900 hotspots. All Internet users – irrespective of whether they are customers of this Canadian cable multiple-system operator or not – can avail this service between Aug 25 and Sep 14, 2014.
Sault Ste. Marie residents who do not figure on the Shaw Communications customer list can avail the wireless Internet service on their laptop and mobile devices by selecting "ShawGuest" on the list of available WiFi hot spots and following the necessary steps to register their devices. To avail the service, users will have to register only once.
Shaw Communications is gradually expanding its WiFi network. The Shaw Go WiFi facility is available in over 35,000 locations in Canada.
We believe the promotional strategy used by Shaw Communications will not only bolster the company’s top line but also drive subscriber growth and reduce the churn rate in the coming quarters. However, the free service provided by the company may hurt its margins in the coming quarter. In the recently concluded third quarter of 2014, the company added 12,399 and 4,834 subscribers for its Internet and Digital phone lines, respectively. Moreover, the company expects revenues in fiscal 2014 to increase in the range of 2–4%.
