Green Automobile Brands

Ford Motor Co. (F) outranked last year’s winner Toyota Motor Corporation (TM) to earn the position of the Best Global Green Brand of 2014. Toyota managed to obtain the second position, followed by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (HMC) and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. (NSANY). BMW and Volkswagen AG (VLKAY) occupied the 13th and 16th positions, respectively.

Daimler AG’s (DDAIF) Mercedes-Benz ranked 24th, while General Motors Company’s (GM) Chevrolet brand came 32nd on the list of Best Global Green Brands for 2014. Hyundai Motor Company’s (HYMTF) namesake brand was last among the automakers in the list, with a rank of 40, while its Kia brand was ranked higher at 35.

Ford earned the top spot backed by its focus on environmentally responsible manufacturing. The automaker concentrates on waste reduction, water conservation and green manufacturing along with investing in alternative energy sources and fuel-saving technologies to protect the environment.

Chevrolet has entered Interbrand’s Best Global Green Brands list for the first time this year. The brand is reducing its environmental impact through carbon-reduction initiatives, increased use of renewable energy and landfill-free initiatives for its manufacturing facilities. Additionally, it produces electric vehicles such as the Spark EV and Volt.
