GM Colorado & Canyon to Offer Highest Horsepower

Zacks

General Motors Co. (GM) announced that its 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon will be offering the highest horsepower in the midsized truck segment. These trucks will be assembled in the company’s Wentzville, MO assembly plant, where production is expected to begin in September or October this year.

General Motors develops technologies considering the needs of customers. Its Colorado and Canyon are available in two different engine options, allowing customers to select depending on their requirements. The first option is a 2.5L I-4 engine that offers 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque; and the other is a 3.6L V-6 engine which offers 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque.

General Motors believes that these vehicles will provide the best-in-class trailer capacity of 7,000 pounds when properly equipped. The engines, which are modeled on proven designs, use direct injection and variable valve timing which provide enhanced power and efficiency. These trucks offer torque at lower RPMs, which yields better towing power and enables easy pulling of the trailer.

The engines are compatible with a six-speed automatic transmission, which is specially designed for truck engines. The six-speed automatic transmission offers auto grade braking and tow/haul mode. Meanwhile, a six-speed manual option is also available on select extended cab 2WD models.

General Motors is very excited about the class-leading horsepower which ensures efficiency, dual-overhead camshafts with variable valve timing, direct injection, and jet-spray piston cooling. The aluminum blocks and forged-steel crankshafts help to extend the life of the vehicles.

General Motors currently holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Fox Factory Holding Corp (FOXF), Gentherm Incorporated (THRM) and Tower International, Inc. (TOWR) are some better-ranked automobile stocks. All these stocks carry a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
