Domino’s Launches Voice Ordering Service

Zacks

In a bid to boost its digital capabilities and enhance customer service, leading pizza chain Domino's Pizza, Inc. (DPZ) is launching a voice-ordering function in collaboration with Nuance Communications, Inc. (NUAN), a worldwide provider of voice and language solutions for businesses and consumers. With the help of the app, customers will be able to speak to a computer-generated voice named ‘Dom’ on their iOS and Android phones.

This new voice ordering function is powered by Nuance Communications’ Nina Mobile. Nina is a virtual assistant which when combined with Domino’s app will offer a human-like, conversational experience, thus enabling consumers to speak, order and add things to their cart.

Restaurateurs are fast catching up on the growing trend of digital ordering. So far, Domino's Pizza Inc. has been a huge beneficiary of this trend. The Domino’s brand generates more than $2.0 billion in global digital sales per year. As a matter of fact, mobile and online ordering accounts for 40.0% of Domino's U.S. sales.

Domino’s is the second largest pizza chain in the U.S. The company is the market leader in the delivery segment in the U.S. and ranks second in the carry-out segment. Internationally, it is the largest pizza delivery service based on the number of units and sales. The launch of this new app will help it to further strengthen its position in the current competitive environment. The ease and simplicity of this new function would offer more convenient ways to order and further increase pizza delivery rates.

Domino's Pizza currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

The digital wave has hit the U.S. fast casual restaurant sector as more and more restaurants are deploying technology to enable a better guest experience. Other restaurant chains that have recently joined the race include Panera Bread Company (PNRA) and Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (CMG).
