Ford Motor Co. (F) announced that the new F-650/F-750 medium-duty truck lineup featuring the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel will come with three engine power ratings. This will provide the best-in-class standard diesel horsepower and torque. These new medium-duty trucks will be marketed from the spring of 2015.
The three diesel power levels offered by Ford for the 2016 Ford F-650/F-750 are the 270 horsepower/675 lb.-ft. torque, the 300 horsepower/700 lb.-ft. torque and the 330 horsepower/725 lb.-ft. torque.
The Ford F-650/F-750 will offer no vocational restriction in using the top horsepower and torque ratings. Customers can choose the horsepower and torque according to their needs.
Ford said that the second generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine is based on the engine used in the F-Series Super Duty lineup. The engine and the commercial-grade six-speed TorqShift HD automatic transmission have been developed and tested for medium-duty applications. The powertrain will provide a five-year/250,000-mile limited warranty.
Ford designs and manufactures the diesel engine and transmission combination for its medium-duty truck. This ensures proper functioning of the powertrain with all components and vehicle calibrations. Moreover, it helps the automaker to optimize vehicle performance and modify the powertrain to be suitable for specific requirements of customers.
Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel is equipped with compacted graphite iron engine block which will enhance the durability and reduce noise, vibration and harshness. Apart from this, the other innovative systems help in providing different benefits.
In addition to the Power Stroke diesel, Ford offers a gasoline-powered engine for medium-duty trucks. The 330 horsepower, 440 pounds-feet of torque 6.8-liter V10 is available for both F-650 and F-750 models with the TorqShift HD six-speed automatic transmission. The 6.8-liter V10 can be used for converting to compressed natural gas or liquid propane gas, thus providing a cost-effective alternative to gasoline.
Ford’s Commercial Truck lineup has been America’s best-selling commercial trucks for 29 years. Ford plans to launch new commercial trucks and refresh all the existing ones in the coming 18 months. The F-650/F-750 trucks are available in Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab styles.
Ford currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Fox Factory Holding Corp. (FOXF), Tata Motors Ltd. (TTM) and Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.
