DENVER and BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, Jan. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Wayin, the platform for leveraging social media across all consumer channels, today announced the acquisition of Comenta TV, the leading analytics and engagement platform for TV shows and live events in South America. Wayin, a software innovation company led by former SUN Microsystems executives, purchased the business and assets of Comenta TV to expand its global operations and acquire a set of technologies for measuring and acting upon Twitter activity. The acquisition brings together two companies that leverage the real-time nature of social networking to create new experiences across multiple consumer touch points.

In Comenta TV, Wayin picks up a company with an essential mix of broadcast and measurement technologies not found elsewhere in the market today. Comenta TV actively provides on-air Twitter integrations for some of the hottest TV shows in Latin America and Brazil and provides actionable insights to its biggest TV networks across 11 countries and 3 continents.

The deal was led by Wayin chief executive Elaine Wood, who views the transaction as an important piece in the company’s global strategy. “We looked at a lot of options and found Comenta TV to be unique in providing television producers real time intelligence into how audiences are engaging with their shows. Wayin sees this as an indispensable value to producers and networks in their quest to further engage their audiences while maintaining creative freedom.”

Founded in 2011 by Juan Melano, Comenta TV built a business across three continents, with high-profile TV activations including Viacom’s Latin American properties and dozens of TV networks and events across Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Spain, the UK, France and North America. “We share a vision for the future, passion for technologies that enable change and now capabilities that make us stronger as one,” said Melano, who prior to starting Comenta TV led a variety of media and technology companies.

A Twitter Certified Partner, Wayin has been quickly gaining market share helping TV networks, big box retailers, automakers, professional sports teams and media publishers from all genres harness the power of social media platforms to strengthen engagement and enhance the sales process. Together the companies now have a scalable and robust set of solutions to deliver curated social content across any screen, in multiple languages and with a complete analytics dashboard for measuring campaign effectiveness in real-time.

“The next wave of business to consumer innovation will be built upon the backbone of real-time social data,” said Scott McNealy, founder of Wayin and previous co-founder of SUN Microsystems. “The opportunity to leverage consumer-driven experiences across all areas of industry and all areas of the world is massive.”

“For Comenta TV, this is an important moment for our team to build our next chapter,” said Juan Melano, who will lead the TV development group out of Buenos Aires. “After a thorough assessment of social engagement platform vendors, we believe this transaction is the best path forward for Comenta TV and offers our company the strategy, financial means, the marketing resources and most importantly the determination to succeed in bringing social experiences to TV networks around the globe.”
