Bruker Corporation (BRKR) launched a new multimodal animal bed, specifically designed for use in preclinical research. The new offering can be conveniently used with other preclinical imaging systems of the company like the BioSpec and ICON systems for MRI, Albira for PET/SPECT/CT, SKYSCAN 1176 for micro-CT, and Xtreme for Optical Molecular Imaging.
Bruker imaging systems are designed to offer standardized DICOM export to facilitate easy and automated co-registration of images, joint processing, and evaluation with maximum precision.
The latest multimodal animal bed introduced at the 2013 World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC) is devised to perform multiple imaging sessions. The flexible repositioning of the systems between scans will help to avert the unwanted motion of the animal during the investigation process.
A newly added feature like the integrated registration system enables a joint reference point on each connector across Bruker's preclinical imaging systems. This will allow data combination to be performed through image superposition automatically and with greater accuracy.
The quick lock connector also provides identical interfaces for proper animal supervision and care, like anesthesia, warming, respiratory control, 3-point ECG for heart rate, and body temperature sensor applications. The life signals will help in the execution gating and triggering experiments.
Researchers and experts at the Biological Imaging of the University of Notre Dame, Ind, welcomed the innovative animal bed platform. With an ability to deliver rapid image fusion between any of the eight imaging modalities within the core facility at Notre Dame, the product is likely to propel higher orders of non-invasive, multimodal imaging experiments across their primary facility.
The multimodal animal bed system will initially be available with a 30 mm cassette for mouse imaging. The company also plans to bring in a larger cassette for rat imaging applications are on the cards in 2014.
