MACOM Launches Power Transistor

Zacks

M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc. (MTSI) recently introduced a new ceramic gallium nitride power transistor – MAGX-001090-600L00 (GaN HEMT) – for avionics applications.

The gold-metalized radio frequency (RF) power transistor is suitably designed for use in pulsed avionics applications, including secondary surveillance radar in air traffic control systems.

The transistor has a 600W capacity to support output power and very low thermal resistance with the lowest pulse droop. The device can also be used under more demanding operating conditions. Moreover, MACOM’s transistor has cleared the accelerated, high-temperature lifetime tests this makes it quite state-of-the-art.

The device satisfies one of the most critical parameters – it ensures the highest load mismatch tolerance within its class. The transistor is thus ideal for avionics applications which require reliable and best quality products.

Of late, MACOM has been launching many new products. Last week, the company introduced a high power amplifier – MAAP-011027 – for C-Band radar and communication applications. The 8W amplifier operates in the frequency range of 5.2–5.9 GHz with 37% power-added efficiency.

Headquartered in Lowell, Mass., MACOM provides semiconductor solutions that are used in RF, microwave and millimeter wave applications. Some of its key products are Passive Components, Active Components, Diodes, Switches and Multi-Chip Modules, which are applied in sectors such as optical communications, medical, mobile devices, wireless infrastructure, aerospace and defense. This ISO9001 international quality standard certified company has design and manufacturing offices across North America, Australia, Europe and Asia.

MACOM currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some other stocks in the industry that are worth a look include MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation (MX), Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP) and Supertex Inc. (SUPX). While Supertex carries a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), both MagnaChip and Microchip have a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
