MinuteClinic, a division of CVS Caremark Corporation (CVS), recently opened a new walk-in medical clinic inside the CVS/pharmacy store in Christiansburg at 550 N. Franklin St. This inaugural initiative in Southwest Va is part of the expansion drive that MinuteClinic has undertaken.
With the opening of this new clinic, 27 MinuteClinic locations are now operational in the state of Virginia. The clinics function all seven days of the week, including weekday evenings.
MinuteClinic launched its first retail medical clinic in the United States in the year 2000 and has ever since been expanding their retail network to deliver quality medical healthcare services to people, with greater ease and comfort.
This immensely popular retail medical chain opened its doors in Va in 2006, and plans to add five additional MinuteClinic locations in Southwest Va in Sep and Oct, one each in Hollins, Lynchburg, Radford, Roanoke and Salem.
MinuteClinic offers a host of other medical services. Their nurse practitioners are well trained to diagnose, treat, and even write prescriptions for common family illnesses such as strep throat and ear, eye, sinus, bladder, and bronchial infections. Additionally they are also specialised to treat minor wounds, abrasions and joint sprains and administer common vaccinations such as influenza, tetanus, pneumonia and Hepatitis A & B.
Walk-in camp, sports, college and DOT physicals are available at various MinuteClinic locations. The stores have initiated multiple wellness services such as screenings and monitoring for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The noble intention behind such activities is to help people identify current lifestyle changes and readily adopt health improvement ideas and techniques.
The main aim of MinuteClinic healthcare providers is to meet the daily healthcare needs of people with an added focus on convenience and affordability. Thus, prior appointments are not mandatory. Moreover, both cash and credit payment facility and health insurance benefits are accepted by the clinics. Furthermore, treatment prices are posted at each clinic location and are also made available online for customer convenience. The cost for most treatments starts at $79.
The USP of MinuteClinic, that differentiates it from others, is the use of a software program by their expert practitioners, that generates an educational material, an invoice, and a prescription (when clinically appropriate) at the end of the patient’s visit. It also serves as a vital diagnostic record that can be sent via electronic health record, fax or mail to a primary care provider by the medical store with patient permission, as and when needed.
