WellPoint Enhances Neonatal Care

In order to enhance its managed care services, WellPoint Inc. (WLP), a leading health benefits organization stated that it will start using the services provided by its CareNex towards coordinating neonatal care.

California based CareNex Health Services company delivers Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) accredited neonatal management services. It was acquired by WellPoint in Dec 2012. Now with the incorporation of CareNex into its maternity benefits coverage, WellPoint intends to strengthen its portfolio so as to gain on more beneficiaries and in turn streamline operations.

As per reports from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about half a million babies in America are born prematurely. As a result most of them suffer from serious health complications. Moreover treatment of such diseases are quite fragmented and expensive. At this juncture, Well Point intends to bring to these infants and their mothers, efficient, personalized and coordinated healthcare services by utilizing CareNex that is well known for its neonatal care services. In this regard, CareNex’s clinical data repository, its nationally acclaimed Physician Advisory Board and solid expertise are expected to be of much help to WellPoint.

The integration of CareNex’s services into WellPoint’s maternity and infant care services is expected to help the latter in strengthening its pre and post natal services. This strategic initiative is believed to enhance consumer confidence on the patient-specific care and services offered by the company thereby helping it to position itself as a leading neonatal care entity in the health-care spectrum.

WellPoint currently carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). Among other healthcare companies that share the same Zacks Rank Aetna Inc. (AET), Humana Inc. (HUM) and Centene Corp. (CNC) appear impressive.
