At the second anniversary of the DuPont Thailand Innovation Center’s opening, DuPont’s (DD) Senior Vice President and Chief Science & Technology Officer highlighted the importance of the role of DuPont’s integrated science in solving some of the world’s greatest challenges. The attendees of the program were business partners, academic thought leaders and government officials.

The Thailand Center has generated more than 100 new ideas and projects and has welcomed over 1,500 visitors from over 300 organizations ever since it’s opening in Aug 2011. By connecting the integrated science to local market needs, DuPont’s Innovation Centers have created value for its customers.

DuPont mentioned its collaboration with three local partners – L Solar 1 Co., Ltd, Smart Green Energy Co. Ltd, and Infinite Green Co., Ltd – as examples of using solar energy to provide local solutions. The other examples include the collaborations on solar farm projects in Prachin Buri Province, Chaiyaphum Province and Saraburi Province, respectively.

Moving forward, the innovation center will work with other local partners to deliver photovoltaic rooftop solutions to serve commercial and residential buildings. The center has also entered into collaborations to find solutions for the customers in other areas.

Apart from collaborations in solar energy, the innovation center has allowed collaborations in DuPont SentryGlas laminated glass for construction, Rely+On Virkon cleaners and disinfectants for livestock, Fermasure for industrial alcohol fermentation, Nomex fire protection suits, and Tyvek graphics and packaging.

DuPont’s solar energy collaboration is aligned with Thailand’s 10-Year Alternative Energy Development Plan. The purpose for this collaboration is to drive the national economy and build up national energy security. It also aims to attain a renewable energy mix of 25% of overall energy consumption by 2021.

According to the Thailand Ministry of Energy, the country has great potential for developing solar energy to minimize the dependency on imported energy and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The DuPont Thailand Innovation Center is one of 12 DuPont innovation centers that enable the company to customize products and form partnerships and collaborations with academia, governments and other institutions all over the globe. The innovation centers mainly focuses on three markets – Agriculture and Food, Automotive, and Construction.
