Dow Building Solutions (DBS), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (DOW), has introduced a new Ultra Air Barrier Wall System. It is the second system developed by DBS that is utilized for block backup construction as well as on metal stud walls.
The Ultra Air Barrier Wall System offers predictable and reliable thermal and air/vapor and water barrier management using a system design that simplifies construction and is easy to install. The system utilizes products of Dow that have been tested by the industry and are made in new and innovative combinations to provide a three-in-one solution for continuous insulation, air/vapor and water barrier taken together.
The products of Dow were initially used by the industry professionals separately but when they are used together as a system, they deliver an optimal wall solution to manage the control layers of the building envelope. The architects, designers and contractors now have two Ultra Air Barrier wall system options for use in various types of backup wall construction. The wall system helps architects, designers and contractors to meet new building codes, and also offers solutions for a complete energy efficient building envelope.
The Ultra Air Barrier Wall System solution combines the proven insulating and moisture-resistant power of STYROFOAM Brand CAVITYMATE Ultra Insulation or STYROFOAM Brand Ultra SL Insulation, with the exceptional sealing capabilities of WEATHERMATE Flashing Tape. Both products ensure reliable performance for a long time. It is a proven, easy-to-install and economical system that offers a continuous blanket of thermal insulating performance and an air/vapor and moisture barrier in brick and block cavity walls and steel stud backup — with fewer installation steps than standard construction methods.
STYROFOAM Brand CAVITYMATE Ultra Insulation and STYROFOAM Brand Ultra SL Insulation outperform in severe moist environments with an additional layer of protection in the wet cavity. The WEATHERMATE Flashing Tape on the other hand combines a BLUE high-density polyethylene (HDPE) film facer with a 20 mil butyl rubber adhesive to form a strong mechanical and chemical bond to the STYROFOAM Brand Ultra SL Insulation. Air/vapor and water barrier properties are attained by sealing the insulation board joints with single-component GREAT STUFF PRO Gaps and Crack Insulating Foam Sealant.
Dow reported mixed second-quarter 2013 results on Jul 25. The company’s profit soared in the quarter on the strength of its agriculture business and a sizeable gain from an arbitration case. Adjusted earnings beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate, while sales missed. Gains across agricultural sciences and performance materials were offset by declines in feedstocks and energy and performance plastics.
