Defense contractor Raytheon Company (RTN) announced the receipt of an $84.7 million contract from the U.S. Navy to continue with the production of ALR-67(V) 3 digital radar warning receivers. U.S. Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, awarded the contract to Raytheon.

The deliveries of the ALR-67(V) 3 digital radar are expected to begin from January 2013 with production scheduled at Raytheon facilities in Forest, Mississippi and McKinney, Texas.

The ALR-67(V) 3 Radar warning receiver is developed to detect airborne threat and is installed on all frontline, carrier-based F/A-18 E/F tactical aircraft and is an integral part of modernization programs for the U.S. defense and international customers.

This electrical unit combines fully channelized digital receiver architecture with the power of dual processors, which enable successful detection of emitters in high-density electromagnetic environments. The digital technology used ensures dependability.

This radar technology is fully integrated with all avionics equipment on the F/A-18 A/B/C/D Hornets and the F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. This system improves aircrew survivability by providing immediate and accurate information in a hostile environment.

We believe the cost effective integrated solutions and ability to perform in high density electromagnetic environments make the ALR-67(V) 3 a preferred choice not only for the U.S. Navy but also for other international defense departments.

Raytheon had received first orders for the ALR-67(V) 3 receivers in August 1999 for the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet, totalling 34 complete installations, together with 40 spare quadrant receivers and 5 countermeasures receivers.

In May 2007, the U.S. Navy awarded a $77.8 million contract to Raytheon, which allowed the company to make the first international sale of its ALR-67(V) 3 digital radar warning receiver. The contract called for delivery of 24 radar warning receivers plus spares for Navy requirements and 55 radar warning receivers plus spares for the Royal Australian Air Force aircraft.

Raytheon currently retains a Zacks #3 Rank (short-term Hold rating). The major peers of the company are The Boeing Company (BA), Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) and Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC).

Based in Waltham, Massachusetts, Raytheon Company, along with its subsidiaries, provides electronics, mission systems integration, and other capabilities in the areas of sensing, effects, and command, control, communications, and intelligence systems, as well as mission support services to its global customers.
