Leading food processing company, Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) named D. Cameron Findlay as the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Mr. Findlay will take over the new responsibilities starting Jul 15, 2013.

In his new role at Archer Daniels, Findlay will overlook the company’s Law, Compliance and Government Relations functions and will be a member of the company’s Executive Committee. Findlay, who replaces Marschall Smith, will report to the company’s Chairman, CEO and President, Patricia A. Woertz.

Findlay possesses tangible experience in the field, with hands-on experience in managing global legal, regulatory, compliance, and public policy issues. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary with leading medical device manufacturer, Medtronic Inc. (MDT). Prior to this, he was associated with Aon Corporation as Executive Vice President and General Counsel.

Apart from serving as a General Counsel for companies, Findlay has worked extensively with the federal government. His career graph in government services included working as a deputy assistant to President George H. W. Bush at the White House, as a deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Labor, and a law clerk for Justice Antonin Scalia at the U.S. Supreme Court. Additionally, he has been a partner in the global law firm now known as Sidley Austin LLP.

His qualifications include a B.A. from Northwestern University, an M.A. from Oxford University, which he attended as a Marshall Scholar, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Meanwhile, Archer Daniels remains consistently focused on enhancing its processing capabilities and global footprints through strategic acquisitions and joint ventures (JV) that bode well for future growth. This was evident from its recent success in wooing Australia’s agri-products dealer, GrainCorp Limited. The company recently entered into an agreement to acquire GrainCorp, approving to pay A$12.20 per share in cash with the aggregate transaction value amounting to $3.4 billion.

Archer Daniels’ interest in acquiring GrainCorp is in sync with its growth strategy, as it will not only fortify its financial position but provide an opportunity to serve the fast-growing markets in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Archer Daniels currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Alongside, other stocks performing well in the Consumer Staples industry include Flowers Foods Inc. (FLO) and Omega Protein Corp. (OME), both of which carry a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
