The Walbridge plant of AK Tube LLC, a subsidiary of AK Steel Holding Corporation (AKS), has gained recognition for its exceptional safety performance by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, Division of Safety and Hygiene.
For the fifth time the Ohio plant has been awarded with the “100% Award for Safety” for operating through 2012 without any time lost to injuries or illness. This honor was given on behalf of a collaborative safety awareness program established by the Northwest Ohio Safety Council.
The plant also won "Special Award for Safety" for operating 1,115,335 man-hours without a lost-time injury between Mar 17, 2009 and Dec 31, 2012. This marks the fourth time the plant received the same recognition. AK Steel is also well known for its corporate-wide safety performance, which was five times better than the steel industry average for 2012.
Another plant of AK Steel, Coshocton Works, gained recognition for its excellent safety performance by the same group in May 20. AK Steel’s Coshocton Works won four awards for its performance.
Coshocton Works received the “100% Award for Safety" for performing successfully through 2012 without any lost-time injuries or illnesses. It also got a "Special Award for Safety" for operating 1,126,942 man-hours without a lost-time injury between Aug 5, 2011, and Dec 31, 2012. The other awards won by Coshocton Works are "Group Safety Award" for having the lowest incident rate in the industrial group, and the "Safety Achievement Award" for reducing its lost-time injury rate by more than 25% over 2011.
The awards were conferred on Coshocton Works as a part of a joint safety awareness program established by the Coshocton County Safety Council and Chamber of Commerce.
AK Steel currently holds a short-term Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
