EA Sets Battlefield 4 Release Date

Zacks

Electronic Arts (EA) has set Oct 29 as the release date of its anticipated action game, Battlefield 4. In addition to the current breed of game consoles available, from Microsoft (MSFT) and Sony (SNE), EA’s Battlefield 4 can be played on the new gaming consoles, namely Xbox One and PS4.

Battlefield 4 is developed by DICE, an EA studio, and the game is powered by the latest Frostbite 3 engine. The game boasts upgraded levels of game play, stunning visual effects and sound mechanisms. Battlefield 4 can be played in both single-player and multiplayer campaign modes.

EA announced that players who preorder Battlefield 4 will receive a premium expansion pack, Battlefield 4 China Rising. Additionally, gamers who preorder the exclusive edition named Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe from Origin will be entitled to get the base game, in-game items and the expansion pack. Moreover, gamers can get an access to the beta version of Battlefield 4 set to be released in the fall of 2013.

EA’s Battlefield has been one of its most successful franchises and has more than 65 million players worldwide. The last installment of the series was Battlefield 3: End game, an expansion pack of the original Battlefield 3, and had been rated very highly by Metacritic. Moreover, almost all the recently released games and expansion packs of the Battlefield series have generated decent sales.

We believe that Battlefield 4 will likely set the bar a notch higher with its latest technology, Frostbite 3 engine, and innovative game play. Moreover, EA’s massive fan following and a possible holiday season release of the game will likely be the positives for the company.

Additionally, we believe that EA’s high-quality titles and a robust product pipeline along with increasing online exposure and traction in the social and mobile gaming market will boost its top line over the long term.

However, we remain cautious on EA due to sluggish consumer spending on packaged video games, dismal video game sales and increasing competition from Activision (ATVI).

Currently, EA has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
