Fresh Market Appoints New CFO (:DEG) (NASD:TFM) (NYSE:KR) (NYSE:PEP)

Zacks

Specialty retailer of high quality food products, The Fresh Market, Inc (TFM) has announced the appointment of Jeffrey Ackerman as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Vice President, with effect from Jun 3, 2013. Ackerman is replacing Lisa Klinger, who resigned in Nov 2012 to join a similar position with a private equity-backed apparel retailer.

Ackerman will be responsible for the company's financial functions including accounting, audit, information technology, investor relations, tax, and financial planning and analysis.

Notably, Ackerman held various executive positions at several top companies in his 25-year career. Prior to joining Fresh Market, Ackerman served as Executive Vice President and CFO of one of the largest bedding manufacturers – Sealy Corporation. Prior to Sealy, Ackerman was the Vice President of the finance department at the Frito-Lay branded snack division of PepsiCo Inc. (PEP).

With his vast knowhow and expertise in consumer-oriented companies, Ackerman can be easily regarded as a veteran in the sector. We expect the company’s successful trajectory to gain further upside from his expert guidance. In addition, Fresh Market’s management is confident of its appointment of Ackerman, considering his exhaustive experience in consumer-oriented companies. Fresh Market expects Ackerman’s financial and operational skills to boost bottom-line growth and thus benefit the company’s clients and shareholder value.

Currently, Fresh Market holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Better performing supermarket retailers include Etablissements Delhaize Fr (DEG) and The Kroger Company (KR), both of them carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
