Zacks

Yesterday, Arris Group Inc. (ARRS) declared that all its C4 cable modem termination system (CMTS), which are deployed by Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) are now IPv6 compatible. It was crucial for Comcast to deliver uninterrupted IP-based services as the existing IPv4 address space is quickly approaching exhaustion. Comcast is the largest client of Arris. Comcast and Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC) generated over 52% of the total revenue of Arris, in the last reported quarter.

IPv6 Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP), Prefix Delegation and Prefix Stability are some of the major features of IPv6 protocol stack which Arris’ C4 CMTS platform supports. In the fourth quarter of 2012, the company shipped 105,246 C4 CMTS downstream ports. In 2012, Arris shipped the majority of customer premises equipments (CPE) for the cable TV industry, which are DOCSIS 3.0 (Wideband) enabled.

A recent report of Infonetics Research Inc. stated that Arris commands 29% of market share, far ahead of its nearest rival Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), which holds 15% market share.

Arris further launched an innovative and upgraded CMTS. The new cable access module (CAM) is integrated with Arris’ flagship C4 CMTS, which was upgraded with 24 downstream ports that immediately doubled the speed of the existing 12 downstream port CMTS. The new upstream card complements the company’s XD CAM, which supports 32 downstream ports. One of the primary features of this product is that it can support DOCSIS 3.0 upstream channel bonding with IPv6 capabilities.

Moreover, the newly introduced E6000 router will act as a powerful C4 CMTS of the company while it can be converted into a Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP). Arris is expected to generate revenue from E6000 in the first quarter of 2013.
