Electronic Arts (EA) recently released a 17-minute demo version of its upcoming game from the Battlefield series named Battlefield 4. The beta version is set to release in the fall of 2013.
Battlefield 4 is developed by DICE, an EA studio, and the game is powered by the latest Frostbite 3 engine. The game boasts upgraded levels of gameplay, stunning visual effects and sound mechanisms. Battlefield 4 can be played in both single-player and multiplayer campaign modes.
Reportedly, the game will be available for Microsoft’s (MSFT) Xbox 360, Sony’s (SNE) PlayStation 3 and PCs. However, the company did not make any comments regarding the game’s release on the next-gen console upgrades that are due later this year.
EA announced that players who preorder Battlefield 4 will receive a Premium expansion pack. Another exclusive edition named Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe is available on Origin.
EA’s Battlefield has been one of its most successful franchises and has more than 65 million players worldwide. The last installment of the series was Battlefield 3: End game, an expansion pack of the original Battlefield 3, and had been rated very highly by metacritic. Moreover, almost all the recently released games and expansion packs of the Battlefield series have generated decent sales.
We believe that Battlefield 4 will likely set the bar a notch higher with its latest technology, Frostbite 3 engine, and innovative gameplay. Moreover, EA’s massive fan following and a possible holiday season release of the game will likely be the positives for the company.
Additionally, we believe that EA’s high-quality titles and a robust product pipeline along with increasing online exposure and traction in the social and mobile gaming market will boost its top-line growth over the long term.
However, we remain cautious on EA due to sluggish consumer spending on packaged video games, dismal video game sales and increasing competition from Activision (ATVI).
