UTC Aerospace Systems, a division of United Technologies Corp. (UTX), recently celebrated its 25th year of business association with Airbus pertaining to the delivery of nacelles systems for its A320 family of single-aisle aircraft and expects the relationship to continue in future as well.

Designed and manufactured to leverage the latest technology, the Aerostructure business of United Technologies is expected to directly contribute to the significant reduction in fuel burn, emissions, noise and operating costs.

The Aerostructure business aims to provide the highest level of support to Airbus for the A320 program. In order to support its assembly lines, the company has also set up its facilities in Germany and China.

In the past, the company’s facilities have expanded multiple times close to the Airbus final assembly line in Toulouse, France. To facilitate higher production rates and optimal quality, the main plant that supports Airbus was further expanded in 2009.

The company also expects to expand its Toulouse assembly facility for the nacelle system for the Trent XWB engine by the end of this year. Back-to-back contact wins has been a catalyst for the Aerostructure business.

With the prevailing competitive environment in the aviation industry, UTC Aerospace mostly aims at building long-term customer relationships. UTC Aerospace Systems manufactures a broad range of additional systems for the A320 family of aircrafts, which includes flight control actuation systems, cabin crew seating, air data sensors, fuel measurement and management systems, security and surveillance systems, electric power generation, ram air turbine emergency power system, fire protection and many other systems.

Based in Hartford, CT, United Technologies provides high-end technology products and services to the building systems and aerospace industries worldwide. The company is a diversified business conglomerate serving various end markets such as aerospace, defense and commercial construction. The business diversification allows the company to remain profitable amid tough economic times.

However, the company needs to be wary of its competitors, which include formidable names such as Macquarie Infrastructure Company LLC (MIC) and Crane Co (CR).

United Technologies currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). One of its competitors, Textron Inc (TXT) carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
