Leading semiconductor solutions provider Broadcom Corp (BRCM) recently teamed with Antix Labs, Ltd to offer interactive games to consumer home devices, including smartphones, tablets and television set-top boxes (STB). The combined offering includes Broadcom's full range of silicon and advanced IPTV, cable and satellite STB technology solutions with Antix.

The adoption of Antix game services will facilitate high quality media services sans the restrictions of FLASH/HTML5, or virtual machine solutions. The users can share games across devices and enjoy uninterrupted game play with greater flexibility, making it more viral than music and video sharing, while protecting copyrights and revenues of the developers. The video consumption on mobile devices is continually on the rise and with these services, users are likely to have a greater experience with user-friendly payment modes, security, performance and usability needs.

This collaboration is a win-win situation for both the companies as it helps them in increasing their revenues by using STBs to share games across mobiles, tablets, PCs and minimizes the risk of game piracy. Broadcom is well placed in the fast-growing wired and wireless communications markets with cutting-edge solutions for a growing number of connected users, who are demanding more content and bandwidth. On the other hand, Antix enables consumers to copy, share, challenge and play with others via a service provider’s network as well as off-network through wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct. The companies aim to provide the users with a comprehensive suite of products and services that enable them to control and deliver low-risk game services.

Based in Irvine, Calif., Broadcom is engaged in designing and marketing semiconductor components of network voice, video, and data traffic for various applications. The company continues to deliver innovation and engineering excellence across a broad range of communication end markets to help its customers enhance device performance and overall efficiency.

Broadcom faces intense competition from other players in the market, which include formidable names such as Juniper Networks, Inc (JNPR) and DSP Group Inc (DSPG).

Broadcom currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). One of its competitors, Tellabs Inc (TLAB) carries a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
