LONDON and NEW YORK, February 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ —

Palgrave Macmillan is pleased to announce its acquisition of BioSocieties, an interdisciplinary journal for the social studies of life sciences, from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The first journal of its kind, BioSocieties is committed to the scholarly exploration of the crucial social, ethical and policy implications of developments in the life sciences and biomedicine. BioSocieties is available via print or digital subscription, and also offers authors the option to publish their articles with immediate open access upon publication.

The quarterly journal, which has been published by Palgrave Macmillan for four years, will continue with the same editorial team led by Professor Nikolas Rose, Head of the Department of Social Science Health and Medicine at King’s College London.

David Bull, Publishing Director of Journals and Reference at Palgrave Macmillan said: “We’re delighted that we have added this young, exciting and international journal to the portfolio of journals we own.

“Life sciences and biomedicine is an exciting and vibrant area of research, and BioSocieties is at the cutting edge of its field, providing a crucial forum for leading scientists, social researchers, clinicians, regulators and other stakeholders.”

Professor Paul Kelly, pro-director of teaching and learning at LSE, said: “Since its launch at LSE five years ago, BioSocieties has become the journal of choice not only for social scientists, but also for life scientists interested in the larger social, ethical and policy implications of their work. The School is delighted that the acquisition of BioSocieties by Palgrave Macmillan will ensure the journal continues to promote the findings of innovative research in this most exciting and challenging of fields of interdisciplinary endeavour.”

Professor Nikolas Rose, Head of the Department of Social Science Health and Medicine at King’s College London said: “I’m looking forward to continuing my working relationship with the team at Palgrave Macmillan. Together we will ensure BioSocieties carries on breaking out from the disciplinary boundaries within the social sciences and humanities, and develops new ways of thinking about the relations between biology and sociality and between the life sciences and society.”
