HWAY: Higher Well-Being for Seniors (ESRX) (HWAY)

Zacks

Healthways (HWAY), a prominent provider of composite healthcare solutions designed to reduce systemic costs, recently revealed that the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index (“WBI”) showed that Americans aged over 65 years are enjoying the greatest overall well-being.

The report found that as Americans get older, they show a steady rise in healthy behavior patterns and demonstrate better satisfaction at the office. The basic access to the necessities of life reaches new heights for senior citizens.

Life expectancies are on the rise as a result of medicinal progress and health-awareness programs. According to estimates, the average longevity in the U.S. will rise to 79.5 years by 2020. Also, it is estimated that one in five individuals will be 65 or older, in 2050. Contemporary culture emphasizes instilling healthier behavior patterns among younger people in order to prevent smoking, curtail obesity and improve general well-being so that subsequent generations can benefit from a longer life span.

The report revealed that senior citizens had a score of 69 (out of 100), ahead of all other cohorts. 18 to 29 year olds came in second with a score of 68; 30 to 44 year olds were next with a score of 67; while 45 to 64 year olds scored 65.

Healthways is a vendor of specialized solutions, enabling recipients to maintain or improve their well-being and, consequently, reduce healthcare costs. The company’s solutions are intended to keep people healthy and mitigate lifestyle risk factors that can cause disease and optimize care for those with chronic illness. Gallup is known for providing timely and pertinent research on opinion. The company employs scientists in disciplines such as economics, sociology, management and psychology. Its consultants identify and monitor behavioral economic indicators on a worldwide basis, thereby enabling companies to increase organic growth.

The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index is an original and large survey, which conducts 1,000 calls each and every day. It is the official measure for well-being in the U.S. providing a daily gauge of individuals’ well-being at the end of each day based on the World Health Organization (“WHO”) definition of health being not only the absence of disease and infirmity but also a state of mental, physical and social well-being.
